Lisa Carswell, BBA (Marketing), Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates (CYQ), REPs

Lisa has a love of all types of dance, especially classical ballet. She has been dancing since childhood and professionally trained in programmes with the San Francisco and Houston Ballet Companies. Lisa won a dance scholarship to The University of Texas (USA) where she continued to dance. Lisa graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. She had a career in retail until the birth of her children. During the years rearing a family, Lisa continued to attend ballet classes and perform; and eventually transitioned into teaching ballet and pointe. Lisa was first introduced to the original Pilates exercises while training with the Houston Ballet Company in the 1980s with Michael King. As a dancer and ballet instructor, she has relied on Pilates techniques to condition the body for the physical challenges of training and performing. After moving to Scotland, Lisa continued her teaching development earning a certificate in Pilates for Dance Teachers. This course sparked an interest to bring the benefits of Pilates not only to the dance community, but to people of all fitness levels. She now holds a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates (Matwork) and is a member of Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

Lisa has a desire to improve everyone’s level of fitness. She is keen to help with postural issues, back pain, flexibility, and tone muscles in her clients. By developing core stability and strength, a client can more efficiently and effectively perform day to day tasks as well as add an intensity to training in other disciplines and sports. Lisa is interested to offer classes targeting specific sports such as rugby, football, golf and American football. In addition, Lisa would like to combine her knowledge of dance and Pilates to address the specific needs of dancers to improve technique, strengthen and rehabilitate. She is a member of the PVG scheme (formerly, Disclosure Scotland) enabling her to teach all age groups.

All her classes focus on the principles of Pilates: core, concentration, control, precision, breathing, flow, posture and neutral spine in a relaxing atmosphere.
