Course Overview
This 100-hour training is designed for yoga teachers who wish to advance their skills in applying the therapeutic aspects of asana, pranayama, meditation, and somatic awareness. The course provides a comprehensive exploration of how yoga supports well-being across body, mind, and spirit, informed by modern science and rooted in classical yogic wisdom.
Through a blend of lectures, experiential practices, supervised teaching, and reflective study, teachers will learn how to adapt yoga for diverse needs, including stress, mental health, immune resilience, chronic conditions, and digestive health.
Course Aims
- To develop knowledge of how yoga supports the nervous system, fascia, digestion, and immunity.
- To apply therapeutic principles of yoga in classes and 1:1 settings.
- To integrate neuroscience, fascia research, and yoga philosophy into teaching.
- To equip teachers with tools to support students experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, cancer, and autoimmune conditions.
- To cultivate confidence in designing adaptive, inclusive, and empowering yoga experiences.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between general yoga teaching and therapeutic applications of yoga.
- Explain the role of the central and autonomic nervous systems in health and healing.
- Understand the impact of stress, anxiety, and depression on the body and mind, and apply yoga practices to regulate them.
- Integrate fascia-informed approaches into yoga practice and sequencing.
- Teach practices that support digestion and gut-brain health.
- Adapt yoga to support students living with cancer, immune dysfunction, and autoimmune conditions.
- Apply the kosha and chakra models to therapeutic teaching.
- Confidently design and deliver therapeutic-focused classes and workshops.
Course Structure & Syllabus
Module 1 – Foundations of Yoga as a Therapeutic Practice (10 hours)
- What makes yoga therapeutic: philosophy and science
- Koshas and samskaras as frameworks for healing.
- The teacher’s role: facilitation vs. fixing.
- Core principles for safe, adaptive teaching.
Module 2 – Stress, Anxiety & Depression (15 hours)
- The Autonomic Nervous System: sympathetic vs parasympathetic
- Neuroscience of stress, the gut-brain axis, and vagal tone.
- Yogic tools: breath regulation, restorative postures, meditation, metta.
- Designing classes and 1:1 sessions to support mild–moderate mental health needs.
Module 3 – Digestive System & Gut-Brain Connection (10 hours)
- Anatomy and physiology of digestion3
- Enteric nervous system and vagus nerve.
- Manipura chakra and the vayus.
- Practices: twists, pranayama, mindful eating, diaphragmatic breathing.
Module 4 – Cancer, Chronic Illness & the Immune System (15 hours)
- Understanding cancer treatments and their impact.
- Yoga for resilience and recovery.
- Autoimmune conditions and inflammation.
- Gentle adaptive practices for fatigue, pain, and reduced mobility.
Module 5 – Fascia, Movement & Somatic Awareness (15 hours)
- Fascia as a living, sensory matrix
- Interoception, proprioception, and emotional regulation.
- Somatic and fascia-informed yoga practices.
- Sequencing with fluidity and responsiveness.
Module 6 – Central & Peripheral Nervous System (15 hours)
- Structure and function of the CNS and PNS
- Neuroplasticity and yoga.
- Breath, movement, and meditation for nervous system regulation.
- Balancing sympathetic and parasympathetic tone in practice.
Module 7 – Integration & Teaching Practicum (20 hours)
- Integrating koshas and therapeutic frameworks.
- Review of therapeutic applications across modules.
- Supervised group teaching and 1:1 mini-sessions.
- Designing therapeutic workshop outlines.
- Reflection, journalling, and peer feedback.
Assessment
- Practical Teaching: one group therapeutic class + one 1:1 teaching session.
- Case Study: design a 4-week therapeutic programme for a chosen condition/system.
- Written Reflection: 1,500-word essay integrating course learning.
- Participation: active engagement in practices, discussions, and peer work.
Training Hours
- Contact Hours: 70 (lectures, practice, discussion, practicum).
- Non-Contact Hours: 30 (reading, journalling, case study, sequencing project).
Total: 100 Hours

Graduates receive a 100-Hour Advanced Certificate in Applied Therapeutic Yoga recognised as Further Training with Yoga Alliance Professionals UK.
